How this follower tracker works

Virev runs its own Instagram crawler for a creator database of 180M+ accounts. Each time it reads an account, it stores the follower count with the time of the read. This page shows those stored readings for the username you type.

The chart keeps one point per day, the last reading of that day. The change table compares the newest point with the newest point at least 7, 30 or 90 days older. When the readings do not reach back that far, the row says so instead of guessing.

An account we have never read costs one live read from Instagram, and that read becomes the first point of its history. The site has a daily cap on these live reads, shared by everyone, and it resets at 00:00 UTC.

What a follower history can tell you

A steady line is normal growth. A jump of thousands of followers in a day or two, with no viral post behind it, often means bought followers. A sudden drop can mean Instagram removed inactive or fake accounts.

Questions people ask

How often is the follower count updated?
Each time Virev's crawler reads the account. Large and active accounts are read more often. There is no fixed schedule, so some accounts have a point every day and others have gaps.
Why does the page say there is not enough history?
The change over 7, 30 or 90 days needs a reading at least that old. An account new to our database starts with one reading, and its history grows as the crawler reads it again.
Will the account know I looked it up?
No. The page reads public counts only, and it uses no Instagram account, so there is nothing to show the owner.
Does it work for private accounts?
Yes, for the follower count. Instagram shows the follower count of a private account to everyone, so it is tracked the same way. The posts of a private account are not read.
Can I see who followed or unfollowed an account?
No. This tracker shows the count over time, not the list of followers. Instagram does not publish who follows or unfollows an account.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
The tracker is free to use. Readings we already store load at any time. Fresh reads from Instagram have a daily cap shared by everyone, and the cap resets at 00:00 UTC.
