How the profile viewer works

Virev runs its own Instagram crawler for its creator database. This page asks that crawler for the account's public profile and its newest posts, the same data Instagram shows a logged-out browser. No Instagram account is used, so the owner sees nothing and no account of yours or ours can be flagged.

Most lookups are served from reads Virev already holds, so the counts can be up to a day old. The line under the profile card says when the numbers were read.

What the two stats mean

Engagement rate is the average of likes plus comments on each of the newest posts, divided by the follower count. Pinned posts are left out because they are an account's best posts, and posts with hidden likes are left out because they have no like count. The comparison uses Virev's benchmark of 431,494 public accounts with 1,000+ followers.

Follower trend is the follower count each time Virev's crawler read the account. A steady line is normal. A jump of 20% or more within a few weeks is worth a closer look, because bought followers arrive that way.

Questions about viewing Instagram profiles

Will the account know I viewed its profile?
No. Instagram has no list of profile viewers, and this page reads the profile without any Instagram account, so there is nothing to show the owner.
Can I view a private Instagram profile?
No. A private account's posts are visible only to followers it approved. This page shows a private account's profile card and nothing more. A site that claims to show private posts is not telling the truth.
Why are some numbers a day old?
Most lookups read the copy Virev already holds instead of asking Instagram again. That keeps the page fast and the tool free to use. The date under the profile card says when the numbers were read.
What is a good Instagram engagement rate?
It falls as accounts grow. In Virev's benchmark of 431,494 accounts, the median is 3.0% for accounts with 1,000 to 10,000 followers and 0.77% for accounts with over a million. The percentile under the rate compares the account with others of a similar size.
Why is there no follower trend for some accounts?
The trend needs two or more reads of the account on different days. Virev's crawler reads large and active accounts more often, so a small or new account may have no history yet.
