When a TikTok sponsored video is restricted or removed, save the exact notice before changing the post. Ask the creator to confirm the affected video, the stated reason and the appeal option available in their account. Then record which campaign activities depend on that video. An appeal is a request for review; keep the campaign plan independent of any assumed reinstatement date.
This procedure covers creator-post restrictions and related paid-ad checks using TikTok's public English documentation. TikTok Shop enforcement needs the notice and guidance for the relevant Shop market. Do not apply the ad appeal steps below to a Shop creator violation.
Establish what TikTok restricted
A drop in views alone does not establish which enforcement action occurred. Later's shadow-ban article discusses reach symptoms under that broad label. For a campaign incident, use the wording TikTok sent to the account owner.
TikTok's content enforcement guidance distinguishes removal from ineligibility for the For You feed. It also describes content under review. Those states need different records and decisions.
| What the creator can confirm | What to record | Immediate campaign decision |
|---|---|---|
| Video removed | Removal notice, reason, post ID and available appeal route | Identify placements and links that depended on the post |
| Ineligible for the For You feed | Notice inside post analytics and stated reason | Flag the distribution restriction without calling the post deleted |
| Content under review | Current status and time first observed | Decide whether dependent scheduled activity should wait |
| Ad rejected or delivery limited | Ad and ad-group IDs, status details and rejection reason | Have the advertiser inspect Ads Manager separately |
| Views fell, with no notice found | Measurement window and checks completed | Keep the cause unconfirmed; investigate without promising a fix |
Ask the creator to check Inbox, then System notifications, then Account updates for violation notices. TikTok documents that route in its enforcement guidance. Save the complete notice privately, including any deadline or linked policy. Redact unrelated messages before sharing evidence with the campaign team.
Open one incident record
The following is a recommended campaign record, not a TikTok submission requirement. Use one record per affected post, with linked records for separate ad or Shop notices.
| Field | What belongs in it |
|---|---|
| Identity | Creator handle, post URL or ID, campaign name and approved asset version |
| Scope | Creator account market, target market, organic post, paid ad or Shop placement |
| Timing | Publication time, last confirmed availability, first observed restriction and time zone |
| Notice | Exact wording, policy named, screenshot location and any stated deadline |
| Appeal access | Where the account owner sees the appeal option, or that no option is visible |
| Supporting evidence | Approved script, relevant claim support, disclosure record and rights documents relevant to the notice |
| Campaign dependencies | Planned ads, linked placements, launch date and affected deliverables |
| Measurement | Last available post metrics and ad spend, each with a capture time |
| Ownership | Creator contact, campaign decision-maker and advertiser contact if relevant |
| Next check | Named person, next update time and decision due before then |
Preserve the original video file, caption and approval history. Record edits as separate versions. Do not overwrite the material needed to explain what TikTok reviewed.
Avoid deleting the post as a routine troubleshooting step. TikTok says deleting violating content does not remove the violation. It also says approved appeals cannot restore content the account owner has already deleted. If the content creates an immediate safety or compliance concern, escalate that concern to the responsible reviewer before deciding what to retain or remove.
Use the route for the actual decision
For You feed ineligibility
TikTok's documented appeal route starts from the affected post:
- Open More insights, or More options followed by Analytics.
- Open the notification explaining that the post is ineligible.
- Review the reason and select Appeal if the creator disagrees.
TikTok says analytics must be enabled to view this decision. Its instructions place that setup under Profile, Menu, TikTok Studio and Analytics. Have the creator confirm the controls present in their account rather than assuming every screen matches a saved guide.
Removed creator content
Use the removal notification's appeal instructions. The creator should explain why the cited decision appears wrong and attach relevant evidence where the route allows it. A music-rights dispute, for example, needs evidence relevant to the audio used. A general claim that the campaign is urgent does not explain compliance.
Record when the creator submitted the appeal and any confirmation or reference number shown. If no appeal option appears, record that limitation and use the support route available in the account. Do not invent a deadline or keep sending duplicate requests because there is no answer yet.
Rejected paid advertising
For the ad types covered by TikTok's One Click Appeal instructions, the advertiser opens Campaign in Ads Manager. They inspect the Ad or Ad Group status, select View more and then Appeal.
This process re-reviews the entire ad group. TikTok also says the advertiser cannot edit the ad or ad group after submitting this appeal. Review the supporting materials before submission. Suspended accounts cannot use this route until the suspension is lifted, and TikTok warns that repeated appeals for the same incident can delay processing.
Keep the creator-post decision and ad decision separate in the incident record. Before resuming paid use, review the Spark Ads permission checks for the asset you intend to run.
Check disclosure without assuming it caused the restriction
TikTok requires its content disclosure setting for posts promoting a brand, product or service. It says missing proper disclosure may lead to restriction or removal. It also says enabling disclosure does not affect feed distribution.
Check the setting against the saved notice. If disclosure is missing, follow the current post controls and document the correction. TikTok allows enabling the setting after posting, but that does not establish that an existing enforcement decision will reverse.
Use the commercial content disclosure guide for the setting workflow. If the notice concerns audio, use the commercial music review to organize the rights check. Neither check substitutes for reading the reason attached to this post.
Send an update that separates facts from decisions
The campaign manager should send the creator, brand contact and relevant media buyer one coordinated update. Include:
- The exact restriction category and when someone confirmed it.
- Whether the post remains accessible, with the time checked.
- The appeal state: not submitted, submitted, awaiting information or decided.
- Which scheduled activities are on hold and who authorized that hold.
- The next update time, even if TikTok has not replied by then.
Here is a hypothetical internal update, with invented times solely to illustrate the format:
At 10:15 UTC, the creator shared a For You feed ineligibility notice for the sponsored video. The post was still accessible at that check. The creator submitted an appeal at 10:40 UTC. We have no reinstatement date. The media buyer will hold the planned paid launch while reviewing the asset's ad status. The campaign manager will send the next update at 16:00 UTC and propose a revised schedule if the decision remains pending.
Do not promise replacement work, fee deductions or a new delivery date before the relevant people agree to them. Mark any replacement video as a separate deliverable requiring review. Reposting the same disputed material should not be the default response.
When a decision arrives, save it and check the post and any related ad status again. Update the campaign schedule using what is now available. Your next action is to assign the incident owner and capture the notice before anyone edits, deletes or republishes the video.
