Before boosting a creator's TikTok post, agree on the exact post, advertiser, paid-use dates, target markets, fee, permitted changes and stop procedure. Then verify that TikTok authorization covers that agreement. A working Spark Ads code proves platform access for a post. Keep a separate written record of what the creator has agreed the brand may do with it.
TikTok describes Spark Ads as ads built from organic posts, including creator posts used with authorization. Later's TikTok ads guide gives a useful introduction to that format. For launch decisions, use TikTok's current instructions and the actual post's status in Ads Manager.
This workflow covers an existing creator post in a Manual or Search campaign. Smart+ and TikTok Shop campaigns need their own setup checks. It does not establish availability for every advertiser, product category or market.
Keep the commercial agreement beside the platform permission
Use this checklist before the creator generates or shares authorization. The agreement fields are operational recommendations, rather than a list of fields TikTok requires in a contract.
| Check | Record before launch | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| Post and identity | Post URL, creator handle and approved version | Creator and brand |
| Paid use | TikTok Spark Ads, named advertiser and agency running it | Brand |
| Dates and markets | Paid-use start and end, time zone and allowed countries | Both parties |
| Payment | Production fee, paid-use fee and extension terms | Both parties |
| Changes | Whether cutdowns, new copy, translations or new posts need approval | Creator and brand |
| Other material | Music, footage and other contributors' permission evidence | Creator supplies; brand reviews |
| Destination | Approved CTA, landing page and any anchor link | Brand |
| Ending the campaign | Stop contact, ad removal steps and organic-post retention agreement | Media buyer and creator |
A creator may agree to an existing post running as an ad without agreeing to new edits or use on another platform. Name those uses separately. If payment discussions combine production and distribution, separate the usage-rights budget before requesting access.
Do not treat an authorization window as a negotiated license term. For example, TikTok's commercial-content guidance says brand-partner tagging can grant ad authorization with a 60-day default. That default describes a platform setting. It does not tell the media buyer what duration the parties agreed to buy.
Review the post before authorizing it
Read the caption, watch the whole video with sound and open the proposed landing page together. Resolve a wrong product claim, expired offer or missing disclosure before moving into ad setup.
For existing organic posts, TikTok's Spark Ads overview says the ad display name and text reflect the selected post and cannot be edited during ad creation. Its creation guide also says a post's caption cannot be edited after authorization. Finalize it first. The separate ability to add text when pushing new content from Ads Manager should not be mistaken for permission to rewrite an authorized organic post.
Check these items explicitly:
- Disclosure. TikTok requires its content disclosure setting for promotional content. Third-party branded content receives the Paid partnership label. Use the disclosure-setting workflow to check the creator's selection. The platform label does not settle every local advertising requirement.
- Music. TikTok recommends its Commercial Music Library for commercial content. Its licenses for music outside that library do not cover commercial use. For other music or original sound, establish that there is no protected music or that the necessary licenses have been obtained. A sound being available in the app is insufficient evidence.
- Visibility. The creation guide says a private video becomes public when used in a campaign, and its privacy status cannot change during promotion. Get the creator's agreement to that visibility before setup.
There is another review item for campaigns in the United States and European Union. TikTok's caption and translation documentation describes automated captions and viewer-triggered translations in supported TikTok feeds, with exclusions. Agree how to handle this feature. Opt-out requires a request that support processes periodically; do not promise an immediate switch or a translated version the creator has approved.
Verify authorization in the buying account
For a post-code handoff, the creator opens the chosen video, opens its menu, selects Ad settings and generates the code. The media buyer adds the post in Ads Manager and checks the authorization period shown beneath it. These steps come from TikTok's Manual and Search campaign guide.
Confirm the identity and post again after import. Record the account running the campaign and the observed authorization end time. Keep the code in the team's restricted handoff location rather than a broadly shared reporting sheet.
Account-based authorization is another supported route. If the team uses it, record that route and the selected authorized identity. Do not request wider account access merely because one post needs advertising permission.
A successful code import still leaves eligibility checks. TikTok's error reference lists failures for:
- Expired authorization or authorization ending before the ad's scheduled end.
- Deleted or unavailable posts, missing ad permissions and unauthorized anchor links.
- Unsupported Stories and Duet carousels, plus certain multi-person or regional Duet/Stitch restrictions.
Check the actual post and intended campaign in the advertiser's account. Do not promise that every ordinary post can become a Spark Ad. If TikTok rejects a format or link, resolve that specific issue before scheduling spend. A fresh code will not fix every eligibility problem.
A handoff record the buyer can act on
The following is a hypothetical completed record. Its dates and conditions illustrate a review decision; they are not a real campaign or recommended default terms.
| Field | Hypothetical record |
|---|---|
| Approved asset | Creator's original storage-bag demonstration, version A |
| Authorized use | Named brand's TikTok Spark campaign, United States only |
| Rights window | October 5, 2026, 00:00 UTC through October 19, 2026, 23:59 UTC |
| Platform authorization | Buyer verifies access remains valid through October 31, 2026, 23:59 UTC |
| Creative changes | No recut, new voiceover or substituted caption approved |
| Destination | Approved storage-bag product page, no extra anchor link |
| Content checks | Disclosure selected; music evidence accepted; public visibility agreed |
| Media owner | Brand's assigned buyer owns scheduling and emergency pause |
| Renewal | Written approval required before extending the rights window |
| Launch decision | Schedule delivery only inside the rights window, subject to ad approval |
In this example, platform access lasts longer than the agreed paid use. The buyer must still stop by October 19. Reverse the situation and the campaign needs a shorter schedule or renewed authorization before launch. TikTok documents an error when authorization ends before the ad does.
For a live record, attach the real post URL, approval evidence, authorization verification time, ad account ID and resulting ad IDs. Record both parties' approval of any renewal. Track rights expiry separately so an authorization that remains available does not become an accidental extension.
Agree on the stop procedure before spending
Assign someone who can pause delivery when the creator or brand raises a content problem. Record which ad IDs use the post, including copies in other campaigns.
Pausing delivery and removing authorization are separate tasks. TikTok's creation guide says a video code can be deleted only when all ads using that video have been deleted in Ads Manager. Its Spark Ads overview says a video must be unauthorized before the creator can delete it from the organic account. Avoid promising the creator an instant one-tap removal process.
Also agree who handles comments. TikTok attributes engagement gained during promotion to the organic post, so the creator's post remains part of the campaign's public record.
Send the creator and media buyer one handoff record before launch. If the agreed use, current authorization or post eligibility is unresolved, keep the campaign unscheduled until the named owner closes that item.
