Influencer marketing in Korea (2026): rates and engagement from 2,965 creators

We measured 2,965 Korean Instagram creators and 139,890 posts. Engagement rate by follower tier, how many posts are ads, how creators label them, what a post costs in won and dollars, seeding against paid posts, and a VT Cosmetics case.

Chart of the median engagement rate of Korean Instagram creators by follower tier. Nano 4.2%, micro 2.7%, mid 1.1%, macro 2.5%, mega 1.9%.

Influencer marketing in Korea runs on three deals. A brand sends free product and hopes for a post (seeding), pays a creator per post (a paid post), or sells through the creator's channel (a group buy, called gonggu). This report puts numbers on each one for a brand or agency outside Korea that is planning work there.

Most guides to the Korean market give definitions, engagement rates from global studies and price tables with no source. We measured Korean creators instead. Virev's crawler read 2,965 Korean-language Instagram creators between August 5 and October 1, 2026, and we analyzed the 139,890 posts they published from March to September 2026.

  • 48% of the creators posted at least one ad or gifted post in 7 months. In beauty, 4 in 10 posts are ads or gifts.
  • 86% of ad and gifted posts disclosed with caption text only. 14% used Instagram's Paid partnership label.
  • On the same creator's account, a post marked #광고 (ad) gets 69% of the creator's usual likes and comments, and a gifted post gets 89%.

Seeding, paid posts and group buys, by share of posts

We sorted the 25,115 posts that carried an ad or gift marker by the words they used.

Deal typeMarker in the postShare

Group buys may look rare at 0.4% because this study reads feed posts and reels only. Group buys that run in Stories and live streams do not show up here. 58% of the ad and gifted posts were reels, against 40% of the same creators' other posts, so brand work leans toward reels. Korean marketers call the small accounts that get seeding boxes KOCs and the accounts picked for expertise in one field KOLs. Our page on what a KOL is measures both by follower tier.

Engagement rate of Korean influencers by follower tier

Engagement rate here is the average likes plus the average comments on a creator's 12 most recent posts, divided by followers.

TierCreatorsMedian followersMedian engagementMiddle 50%
Nano, 1K to 10K7743,4144.2%1.1% to 11.5%
Micro, 10K to 100K1,44335,9862.7%0.9% to 8.3%

Mega, 1M+881,479,2491.9%0.9% to 5.0%

Engagement falls as followers grow, as it does in global data. Korea differs in one place. The 100K to 500K tier is the lowest, and the rate climbs again above 500K. The macro and mega tiers hold only 125 and 88 creators, so read those two medians loosely.

Creators in one tier differ a lot. A nano creator in the bottom quarter sits at 1.1% and one in the top quarter at 11.5%. If you pick by follower count alone, you can pay the same fee for two accounts whose engagement is ten times apart. Check a candidate with the Instagram engagement rate calculator, or the TikTok engagement rate calculator for TikTok. For benchmarks across 431,494 accounts in every country, see Instagram engagement rate benchmarks.

How many Korean influencer posts are ads, by niche

Of the 2,965 creators, 48% posted at least one ad or gifted post in 7 months. The share of posts that carry a marker depends on the niche.

In a Korean beauty creator's feed, 4 of 10 posts are ads or gifts. Across the sample, ad and gifted posts tagged 6,911 brand accounts, and 209 of them were tagged by 10 or more creators. The top five are all beauty: Olive Young (76 creators), VT Cosmetics (69), Centellian24 (58), Dior Beauty (58) and AGE 20's (53).

A beauty brand should expect that a competitor already works with the creators it wants. Before you send an offer, read the tags on the candidate's recent ad posts. Pets and fitness sit at 3% to 5%, so a new brand post there sits in a feed with few other ads.

Ad disclosure rules in Korea

Korea's Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) put a revised version of its endorsement guidelines into force on December 1, 2024. On text-first media such as blogs, a creator must state the payment from the advertiser in the title or at the start of the post. The rule covers cash, free product, gift cards and discounts, so a seeding post needs a disclosure too.

Most Korean creators put #광고 or #협찬 in the first line of the caption. Of the posts with a caption marker, 91% had it in the first line. Only 14% of ad and gifted posts used Instagram's Paid partnership label, and 7% had the label with no word in the caption. The label shows inside Instagram, but it is lost when someone copies the caption or takes a screenshot.

We searched for caption markers in the first 1,000 characters. For a contract with a Korean creator, write in "#광고 or #협찬 in the first line of the caption" and ask for the Paid partnership label as well. Our guide to Instagram's paid partnership label shows how to set it up.

How Korean ad posts perform against normal posts

We compared each creator's ad posts with that creator's own normal posts. For each creator we divided the median likes plus comments on ad posts by the median on normal posts, then took the median of those ratios. Only creators with at least 2 ad posts and 3 normal posts count.

  • Posts marked #광고 (ad) got 69% of the creator's usual engagement, across 695 creators.
  • Posts marked 협찬 or 제품 제공 (gifted) got 89%, across 445 creators.
  • Across all ad and gifted posts, 72% of 955 creators got less engagement than usual, and reels got 68% of their usual views.

With seeding, the creator decides whether to post. With a paid post, the post goes up on a set date and follows the brand's brief. That difference may explain why gifted posts lose less, but this data cannot prove the cause. When you negotiate a fee, forecast results from the creator's usual engagement times these ratios, not from the average the creator shows you. Our sponsored post study ran the same method on 391,731 creators worldwide and found the same order, 0.69x for sponsored posts and 0.94x for gifted ones.

Korean influencer rates and cost per engagement

Korean price tables differ by source, but their ranges are close. We took psdetector's per-post Instagram prices from July 2026 and divided them by the engagement we measured to get a cost per engagement (CPE). Expected engagement on an ad is each tier's average engagement times that tier's ad ratio. A separate report, Korean influencer rates 2026, divides 104 prices from 45 price tables by real views.

TierPrice per postIn US dollars
Nano₩50,000 to ₩300,000$37 to $224

Mid₩1.5M to ₩5M$1,122 to $3,739
Macro₩5M to ₩10M$3,739 to $7,478
Mega₩10M and up$7,478 and up

Micro963688₩436 to ₩2,180$0.33 to $1.63
Mid2,2241,575₩952 to ₩3,175$0.71 to $2.37
Macro16,3778,540₩585 to ₩1,171$0.44 to $0.88
Mega29,10520,698₩483 and up$0.36 and up

We computed each range from the low and the high end of the price. The mid tier costs the most per engagement, because its price is three to five times the micro price and its engagement rate is less than half. Nano creators cost as much as the mid tier if you pay the top of their range. Most nano work is paid in product instead of cash, so the seeding math below fits them better. An agency or platform adds a fee of 15% to 30% of the spend.

Seeding or paid posts with a ₩3M budget

We priced two plans with a budget of ₩3M ($2,243), using the measured numbers above. Virev cannot measure what share of seeded creators post, so the table for plan B tries three assumed shares. Our Korean report on influencer seeding in Korea (in Korean) covers who posts gifted products, how soon after delivery, and a plan for a 50-creator send. In that report, 28% of the 2,965 creators posted at least one gifted post in 7 months.

Plan A, paid posts by three micro creators

Three micro creators at ₩900,000 ($673) each, the middle of the price range, cost ₩2.7M ($2,019). A micro creator's usual engagement of 963 times the micro tier's #광고 ratio of 0.67 gives 641 engagements a post, or 1,922 for three. That is ₩1,405 ($1.05) per engagement.

Plan B, seeding to 150 nano creators

A product that costs ₩15,000 ($11) plus ₩5,000 ($4) for packing and shipping comes to ₩20,000 ($15) per creator, so the budget covers 150 creators. A nano creator's usual engagement of 117 times the nano tier's gifted ratio of 0.86 gives 101 engagements a post.

Share of creators who postPostsTotal engagementCost per engagement
50%757,575₩396 ($0.30)
30%454,545₩660 ($0.49)
14%212,121₩1,414 ($1.06)

If fewer than 14% of the seeded creators post, seeding costs as much per engagement as the paid posts. Seeding also yields 15 to 25 times as many posts, which you can reuse on product pages and in ads. In exchange, someone has to pick 150 creators, collect addresses and track shipments, and each creator decides whether to post. Paid posts let you set the date and the message. Pick plan A when you need reach on a launch date, and plan B when you want many reviews and pieces of content. To count every cost in one seeding box, see calculate the full cost of a seeding batch.

Case study, VT Cosmetics' summer 2026 campaign

VT Cosmetics (@vtcosmetics_official) is the brand tagged by the second most creators in this sample. From March to September 2026, 69 creators in the sample posted 104 ad or gifted posts that tagged the account. We counted only accounts Virev reads, so the real campaign is larger.

Posts4287263522

The public posts show how the campaign was built.

  • 83 of the 104 posts went up from July to September, and the captions name the Air Cloud sun cream, Reedle Shot, a PDRN essence and a Reedle Shot micro pore patch.
  • 30 of the 34 sun cream posts went up in July and August.
  • Of the 69 creators, 32 had under 10,000 followers, 22 had 10,000 to 100,000, and 15 had 100,000 to 1 million, with none above 1 million.
  • 95% of the posts were reels.
  • 52% carried #광고 and 46% carried #협찬 or #제품제공, so the brand seems to have run paid posts and seeding side by side.
  • Only 8 posts (8%) had the Paid partnership label.
  • 74 posts by 51 creators named Olive Young, 16 posts by 14 creators named Daiso, and 6 posts by 5 creators named the military PX, the stores on Korean army bases, so most of the campaign pointed buyers to Olive Young.

These posts drew the most engagement. All are reels except the last, and the last column compares the post with the creator's usual engagement.

The @gentle_ph reel reached 773,393 views, more than 10 times the account's followers. It told soldiers about a PX discount, so the audience was clear. @yoonji_1228 has 17,000 followers and got 10 times the account's usual engagement with one product and one question in the hook, "Clinic-level pore care at home for under ₩20,000?" Across all 104 posts, the median was 0.94x usual engagement. When a brand spreads product across many creators, a few posts take off and the rest perform as usual, which gives steadier results than a bet on one big account.

How to vet Korean influencers before you book them

  1. Compare the candidate's engagement rate with the tier median in the table above. A creator in the bottom quarter of the tier gets less engagement than other accounts of the same size.
  2. Compare the engagement on the last 2 or 3 ad posts with the creator's normal posts. If ads get half or less, offer a lower fee.
  3. Read the tags on recent ad posts for competing brands. Beauty brands share creators most often.
  4. Check that past ads put #광고 in the first line, because the brand shares the liability when a disclosure is missing.
  5. Look for a contact. 30% of the creators in the sample list an email in their bio, and the 100K to 500K tier is highest at 41%. For an account with no public email, try the Virev email finder.
  6. Save the campaign posts before you report results, because creators can delete or edit them. The Instagram downloader saves the original files.

Also compare a candidate's follower trend with other accounts in the tier. In our Korean report on Instagram follower growth (in Korean), 1,298 Korean accounts read twice in August 2026 grew a median 1.11% in 30 days, and 59% of Korean accounts with 500,000 or more followers lost followers in that month. A small drop in a big account's followers is no reason to drop it from the shortlist.

How we measured

  • We started from public Instagram accounts with 1,000 or more followers that Virev's crawler read between August 5 and October 1, 2026.
  • We kept 5,032 accounts where at least half of the recent captions were in Korean or the profile analysis placed the account in Korea.
  • We removed accounts classified as brands, media, shops or official accounts, or whose name and bio read that way, which left 2,965 creators.
  • For scale, 9,816 public accounts with 1,000 or more followers had Hangul in the bio in the same period.
  • Engagement rate is the average likes plus the average comments on up to 12 recent feed posts, divided by followers. We left out pinned posts, posts with hidden likes and posts under 3 days old, and dropped accounts with fewer than 6 posts.
  • Tier values are the median and quartiles across the accounts in the tier.
  • An ad or gifted post is a feed post or reel from March 1 to September 30, 2026, among 139,890 posts, with the Paid partnership label or one of these words in the first 1,000 characters of the caption: #광고, 유료광고, 광고 포함, 협찬, 제품 제공, 제공받음, 체험단, 원고료, 공구, 공동구매.
  • Undisclosed ads cannot be counted, so the true share of ads may be higher.
  • Niches come from the profile category, bio and caption words. Caption words push accounts that review many products into beauty or food. The niche table leaves out 625 creators who matched no niche.
  • Prices come from psdetector's July 2026 per-post Instagram table. Other Korean price tables, from Rooters and Kmong, show similar ranges. A real quote depends on the account, the format and the usage rights.
  • Saves and shares are not public, so the engagement rate leaves them out.
  • The sample is the accounts Virev collects, which lean toward the accounts brands search for, and is not a random draw from all of Instagram.
